I have a brother that lives in Colorado. In a recent conversation, we discussed
that I have been having difficulty sleeping. He suggested that I try a technique he
has been using for several years. Sleeping for ninety minutes increments
(i.e. 1.5 hours, 3 hours, 4.5 hours, 6 hours, etc.) He explained to me that a normal
sleep cycle averages ninety minutes (65 minutes of normal, or non-REM;rapid eye movement, sleep; 20 minutes of REM sleep (in which we dream); and a final 5 minutes of non-REM sleep.
If we are not disturbed we move from one sleep cycle to the next. A person that only sleeps
six hours will feel more rested than a person that has slept eight to ten hours who has not
completed a full sleep cycle. I been trying this new sleep pattern for several weeks
and I have noticed a difference in my level of alertness and I feel remarkably well rested.
